Belgium has been a very short part of our trip – which was unfortunate, because we enjoyed the serene landscape, the endless channels, and the wide beaches very much. Good food and the excellent Belgian beer played a huge role as well, of course. Our route took us through the beautiful town of Bruges, so we seized the opportunity to spend some rest days strolling through its romantic alleyways.

During our five hiking days in Belgium, we had company on three of them! Moiken’s colleague Claude joined us when we were in Bruges, our friend Gigi came two days later to walk along the Belgium coast, and on our last day in Belgium, we had an additional hiking companion: Bart came driving from the South of the country and shared his hiking experience on huge parts of the E9 with us. We were introduced to him through the Belgian hiking association Grote Routepaden, who were really wonderful. Not only did they invite us to stay in the Belgian youth hostels during our trip; we also had the honour to be interviewed for their magazine Op Weg about our hike on the E9.

All hiking trails were perfectly waymarked and are a great way to explore this beautiful country.
